About Retron Audio

Who are we

Retron is a company specializing in the design and manufacturing of innovative, transparent sounding and aesthetically pleasing equipment for the audiophile market. Retron was founded by P. Athanasiou, an electronic engineer with over 25 years of experience in the audio industry, working as a designer, engineer and technician for major manufacturers. He created Retron to apply his specific ideas, techniques and knowledge to fill a gap in the audio world: to bring back to audio equipment that bit of warm, transparent, organic sound that is usually missing from most modern equipment.

What we do

At Retron, we are not interested in making another tube amplifier, preamplifier or set of cables like the thousands of often carbon copies already on the market today. On the contrary, our goal is to design and build genuine equipment that delivers the best audio and aesthetic results possible. For our unique Retron designs we use hand-picked vintage parts, combine them with modern high-quality parts, and use the latest manufacturing technologies to achieve our goal: the best possible audio and aesthetic results. We hand build loudspeakers, amplifiers, preamplifiers, players and a variety of cables and audio accessories. We also take orders for one-off custom-built equipment, tailored to our customers' needs.

Our philosophy

Over the last few decades, audio hardware manufacturers have focused more and more on finding ways to build cheap, mass-produced equipment. Their way of doing this is to reduce parts and labor costs by using cheaper parts and moving production to countries with cheaper labor. Using cheaper parts and skipping quality control and techniques that focused on getting the best sound reproduction regardless of cost, helped companies achieve the desired cost reduction, but led to big compromises in the audio quality of their equipment. Our way at Retron is different: we keep and use old, now abandoned audio technology and combine it with the latest innovations in components and manufacturing to give our products the best audio performance possible. At the same time, we ensure that our equipment is aesthetically pleasing by paying special attention to design. To achieve our goal, we combine old and new in a harmonious collaboration, using new old stock vacuum tubes while designing circuits and cabinets using the latest computer-aided design technology. In the same way, we use laser cutters and CNCs to manufacture parts of our gear, while painting and finishing wooden parts by hand and fine-tuning everything by ear with the help of measurement software.

Our clients

Our clientele consists of a wide range of audio enthusiasts and professionals who all have one thing in common: their quest for the best audio quality. Our innovative designs and our ability to design and manufacture high quality, one-off pieces of equipment for specific needs makes us the best choice for anyone seeking uncompromising audio equipment.
